5 Whys
A method to finding the root cause that underlies a particular problem. It encourages the troubleshooter to look beyond ostensible reasons for defects and follow the chain of causality until the underlying cause is identified. The “5” whys is just a rule of thumb – it may take less than five questions to get to the root of a problem.
