A private, nonprofit organization that promotes and facilitates voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems. It is the U.S. member body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It oversees the creation and use of thousands of norms and guidelines and accredits programs that assess conformance to standards.
